Mark Roberge - Director
Tell us a bit about yourself! What's your day job, your interests, your life look like?
I decided to move to “the big city”, Calgary, in ‘97 and graduated with a BComm in Accounting and Finance and immediately started my career with Deloitte and Touche LLP. I later gained a Chartered Accountant designation with focus on the Real Estate industry and corporate finance.
In 2016 I joined Royop as their new CFO and COO. This move to Royop has been life changing and the best thing for me, my career, and my family.
I have a wife, Kim, and I have two daughters, Sawyer and Sydney and a son Levi. I hope that one of my children takes a liking to golf so that I can finally have someone join me in my favourite pastime.
Why did you choose to join the Board at NHA, (and if relevant, your particular seat)? How long have you been with us?
I joined the board in 2017 as a director at large and have served as Vice Chair. I thought it was a great opportunity to use my skills and knowledge in real estate to help Norfolk achieve one of its key objectives which was to acquire a new property.
What is one thing you've learned about affordable housing since joining the Board?
I was really surprised by the sense of “community” that a mixed-income model can create for all residents. It is really amazing to see this at events and when reading about all that’s happening in and around our buildings and in the community.
What's your favourite thing about NHA, or something you wish everyone knew?
I love the passion that NHA has for its residents. You can see and get a real sense from talking to staff and members that they care about each individual and their wellbeing.
What's a quote or sentiment you live by?
Nothing replaces hard work. I have always believed that if I work hard, good things will come.
Coffee or tea?
Coffee all the way!
