In the spirit of reconciliation, we would like to acknowledge and give thanks to the generations of people who stewarded this land, traditionally know as Mohkínsstsisi, which we also refer to as Calgary.

The Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta is comprised of the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy including the Piikani, Siksika, and Kainai First Nations, as well as the Stoney Nakoda and Tsuut’ina First Nations. We acknowledge the people of the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3, who also make their homes here.

The act of reconciliation is an ongoing journey requiring our commitment every step of the way and we do not do it alone.

NHA’s 2021 REPORT to COMMUNITY

A MESSAGE FROM OUR CEO & BOARD CHAIR

Traditionally this message is reflective of our accomplishments over the past year, and while we have much to be grateful for and much to reflect on, our eyes and our energy are set on the future and moving forward.

If we can add one significant point of reflection, it would be that 2021 was a year of affirmation for NHA. The resiliency and capacity of our model and approach to community housing created stability during unprecedented times for our residents, staff, volunteers, and community stakeholders. As a community, we had many opportunities in the past year to affirm what was going well for us; what we needed to preserve and protect in the face of unprecedented challenges.

In 2022 and beyond, we are clear and focused on the values and principles that will support our community and residents to rebuild and be stronger than ever.

Our focus will be to ensure that our residents have stability and can rely on our high operating standards as they navigate pandemic recovery and the turbulence in the world that has come to dominate our newsfeeds and entered our living rooms.

We remain inspired and proud of the Norfolk team and the daily demonstration of passion, commitment, and sheer will to enrich the lives of those who make a home at Norfolk Housing. The strength and resiliency of this team will continue to be critical to NHA’s success.

The loyalty and commitment demonstrated by our residents always amazes anyone who comes into contact with Norfolk Housing. The pride and sense of ownership that is demonstrated in and around our buildings is evidence that mixed-income, diverse communities create immense social value to the wellbeing of our city, and we need to increase the number of NHA models across our city now more than ever.

We will be pursuing collaborations with the sector and beyond to address ongoing resident wellbeing, aging in place, and resiliency. Our team will continue to work on developing solutions for climate resiliency across our housing portfolio. We will be making investments into technology to improve operational efficiency and capitalizing on affordable housing funding to make life better for our current and future residents.

And finally, and perhaps most importantly, we will be dusting off our aprons to welcome our residents and collaborators to one of the best Stampede Breakfasts in the city!

Can’t wait to see you this summer!

Maya Kambeitz, CEO

Bryan Slauko, Board Chair
